Steamed Tapioca Drenched With Coconut Sauce

Hope all of you have a great Saturday spending valuable time with your family at home.
I just made this Steamed Tapioca drenched with Coconut sauce for dessert.

Steamed Tapioca Drenched With Coconut Sauce

Ingredients
2 medium size tapioca, peeled and cut to 5cm long
pinch of salt
1/2 cup of palm sugar (gula melaka)
1/2 cup of warm water

Method
1. Boil the tapioca pieces with enough water till soft.  Drain and set aside.
2. Put the palm sugar and warm water in a small sauce pan and bring to boil till sugar
     melted.
3.  Put the tapioca pieces into the palm sugar and mix all till the tapioca pieces are coated
     all over.

Coconut Sauce
1/3 cup of coconut milk
1 tsp rice flour
pinch of salt
1 pandan leaf, cut to small pieces

Put all the ingredients into a sauce pan and bring to a boil till the coconut milk thickens.

To serve
Put the tapioca into a plate and drenched it with coconut sauce.   Ready to serve!

If I am not mistaken, this is one of the Thai dessert that is called "Montad Chuame"

  1. Hi Mel, what a coincidence, I just came back from market with tapioca. Planing to bake bingka ubi tonight. I love your version too, very delicious with the creamy coconut. But I do use tapioca for bubur cha cha too.

P/S I got some passion fruits for you.

    1. Hi Amelia,
Oh, you are baking bingka ubi again. I loves bingka ubi. Yes, we can do many different kind of recipes using tapioca. I must try bubur cha cha using tapioca next time.
Thank you so much Amelia and very kind of you to think of me when you happen to see passion fruits!

  4. I love this...usually I just have it steamed with salt rubbed all over, but the coconut cream makes it much more delicious!

    1. Hello Fern,
In the beginning I steamed it but it took a little longer to cook till soft so I change to boiling it instead. Taste great this dessert.

  6. This is so lovely, Mel. There is a similar Filipino recipe of tapioca in syrup but I think the coconut drizzle makes this dish ten times better.

    1. Hi Ay Choo
In this case when I make this, as the gula melaka I used is in a big block, I chopped it to small bits and use a 1/2 cup to measure till it filled to half cup. If you find it too troublesome to do this way, just use about 70-100g would do. Hope this helps.
