Fragrant Taro Rice 芋头饭






Fragrant Taro Rice芋头饭
Serves 6

400g white rice
500ml water
200g diced taro (yam)
50g diced carrot
5 mushrooms, soaked and diced small
50g dried shrimps, soaked for 5 minutes
200g pork belly or lean meat

Marinade
1 tbsp oyster sauce
½ tbsp light soy sauce
½ tsp salt
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
½ tbsp sesame oil
Pinch of pepper


Method

Cut pork/meat into strips and marinate for 1 hour.

In a frying pan, add 1 tbsp oil and stir fry dried shrimps till fragrant.  Put in the pork meat and stir fry for a while.   Add rice and stir well.  Pour everything into rice cooker.
Add water and turn on the rice cooker.

Once the rice starts to boil, add in the diced carrots, taro and mushrooms.  Cook till done and serve.

    1. I know almost everybody loves to eat taro! This taro rice is very easy to cook especially when you don't feel like cooking alot or eating out.

      This is a fuss free dish! Go and buy one small taro would do, and yes just "hantam" everything in the rice cooker. One dish "kow tiem". :-)

      I loves to cook one pot meals; like stew where I have meat and vegetables all in one pot. After cooking, less scrubbing and cleaning of the stove too. :)

  6. This is my first time seeing Taro in mixed rice! I love it. The weather has been cold especially in the evening and I've been making mixed rice (we call it takikomi gohan). This sounds really yummy!

      We used to eat this Taro Rice at the food court/food stalls but nowadays it is getting costly per bowl. Well, it is always good to cook it at home. It must be coming to autumn now at your place and good to have steaming hot rice on the table!
