Time pass real fast and it is already Saturday. What do you intend to do today? Out grocery shopping or stay at home? Hmm....weekend usually is crowded at the supermarket/shopping centres. To me, I rather stay home and catch some movies!
Staying at home means I need to make something to eat while watching TV. Just wanted to clear some apples away in my fridge; hence, I have made this Apple Strudel!
APPLE STRUDEL
Ingredients
1 sheet store bought puff pastry
Filling
4 or 5 apples,
(I used Granny Smith), peeled and slice
25g
butter
100g
brown sugar
40g
raisins
½ tsp
cinnamon powder
some toasted walnuts, chopped to small
2 tbsp
plain flour
1 small egg for egg wash
To
make the Filling
Heat up frying pan and melt in the butter
and sugar. Add in apple slices and
raisins.
Stir fry the apples till tender and soft.
Add in the cinnamon powder and flour to
thicken it. Dish up and let cool.
Place pastry on a baking sheet with greased proof paper.
Spoon
mixture down center of dough and sprinkle the walnuts all over. Cut slits in dough 1 inch apart lengthwise down
each side of filling. Brush each 1-inch dough strip with beaten egg and fold
over dough.
Brush top
of pastry with remaining egg and sprinkle with reserved sugar mixture. Bake at preheated oven 180C for 20
to 25 minutes, or until golden. Serve warm, or allow to cool before serving.
You may serve this with some ice cream together.....taste real delicious!
Mel, I love apple strudel!! A few years ago my brother went to Australia (can't remember which part) and when he came back he brought back a few of the famous apple strudel. Wallah! I fell in love with it. OK, when going grocery shopping I must look for puff pastry and apples :) Your apple strudel is so golden brown and delicious!
ReplyDeletehello Phong Hong,
DeleteI remember when I'm staying in NZ, I loves apple strudel too be it fresh from oven or from the supermarket frozen shelf. It just taste so delicious!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
PH, the one you mentioned should be Corica apple strudel. I brought back a dozen when I last visited Perth.
DeleteMel, maybe we should become neighbours.. :)
Chef
DeleteActually we are already neighbours......JB / Singapore!
Your apple strudel looks perfectly made. I love apples best in strudels and pies! Looks so delicious, perfect for the "whole day snack", if it lasts that long!
ReplyDeleteHi Joyce
DeleteThanks for your compliments! I find baking this apple strudel with the store bought puff pastry is so easy.
Mel, I must say, ur apple strudel ingredients sounds lots better than the famous "C" one. Really, ur apple strudel has such a nice combination of flavours and the outlook of the puff pastry is shiny n golden in colour.
ReplyDeleteHi Helena,
DeleteOrh.....you flatter me... and thank you for your sweet words..since I can't take the famous C apple strudel, I just have to make my own!
i'm devastated to hear you live in jb, mel! that's really too far to ask for a piece of your beautiful apple strudel.. and ayam masak merah ^^|| i really like corica apple strudel! now you are making me crave apple strudels all over again! and i'm out of apples!!!
ReplyDeleteHi hui
DeleteHow I wish I am staying nearby to your place so I can let you be my "guinea pig"..... hee...hee....you dare?
I loves apples strudel......drool...just to mentioned it!
i really love how your puff pastries turn out after baking. Can i know what brand of puff pastry is this? so far i only baked with puff pastry once or twice..cant remember and sometimes i dont wish that they puffed up so much..depends what i'm making. do you normally need to roll the pastry thinner before putting in the filling? thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Lena
DeleteThe brand I usually used is Pampas Puff Pastry (Australia brand). A pack of 6 pieces 10" x 10"..and no it doesnt need to roll. Last time Tesco selling this brand and maybe you can check out at your area if not you can get another brand, Kawanku...also in 10" x 10".
Oh....just found out ....the local puff pastry brand is "Kawan"..... not kawanku!
DeleteOh Mel,
ReplyDeleteI love apple strudel too. Look like the 'C' brand is really famous. I have tasted from 'C' too. Agreed with Li Shuan, yours definitely look prettier and more inviting.
Looking at yours I am drooling :p
mui..^^
Actually I wanting to ask you where did you get this larger size of puff pastry, anyway you have answered to Lena. Your apple strudel look absolutely good, bookmark immediately .
ReplyDeleteHi sonia
DeleteI bought this Pampas puff pastry at Cold Storage. Tesco used to sell this brand but now I cant find it anymore/either sold out or no longer selling this brand. U can always get the local brand Kawan ; same size.
Hi Mel,
ReplyDeleteYou have made your strudel very well and I can't stop staring at the picture that has the slice of your strudel and the fork.
I guess that I'm hoping to pick up the fork and have a bite of the strudel... I guess that I have to stop dreaming now :p *Wake up! Zoe*
Hi Mel, so sorry for turning up so late. Busyyyyy! Your apple strudel looks huge & so yummy there! It must be good to have it while watching movies. So which one did you watch, hehehe!
ReplyDeleteThis is simply beautiful. I really enjoy anything with apples...especially this time of year. So festive.
ReplyDeleteI love apple desserts and you've done a great job with this. The pattern is lovely!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely strudel, Mel. I know that apples are available all year round but something about them makes them so perfect for autumn. You are right, the strudel calls for ice cream.
